Lonnie Alverson owns and operates On The Anvil Forge in Cleveland, South Carolina and has been blacksmithing since 1996. He is a longtime member of the Philip Simmons Artist Blacksmith Guild, named in honor of the renowned craftsman, Philip Simmons of Charleston, SC. The guild is a community of artist blacksmiths who believe in keeping their craft alive through promoting the knowledge of the foundational elements of blacksmithing through hands on learning, training, and demonstrating.
He has studied at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina and has had the privilege of learning from some of the Nation's leading blacksmiths, some of whom include: Ivan Bailey, Pete Brandenburg, Jerry Darnell, Gavin Harris, Robert S. Jordan, Peter Ross, Elmer Rouch, and Clay Spencer.
Blacksmithing is an ancient craft that has experienced a revival since 1960. This art form involves being able to take a cold, lifeless piece of metal and when added with the elements of heat, hammer, and anvil, it begins to take shape. It can then be forged into something new, beautiful, and fit to design to where one cannot see that from which it came or where it started. In blacksmithing, the journey truly is the destination, for you cannot have one without the other.

Lonnie enjoys creating custom , one of a kind designs in ironwork , that reflect each client's unique individuality. He may take the inspiration he receives from the beautiful and diverse creation, or by using a representation of your family heritage, or a theme  that you may already have in your home and gardens.Lonnie's goal is to  make a handcrafted, long- lasting piece of ironwork for you that will complement and highlight your living space.
